Beasts of '09
Posted on 12/17/2009 by CJ

Voted into many of the year's 'Best of' lists, Wild Beasts' Two Dancers is a definite must-have album.

An ode to "Girls from Rodean, girls from Shipley, girls from Hounslow, girls from Whitby", 'All The King’s Men' is one from the dead-eyed to the doe-eyed, featuring a decadent tenor from Tom Fleming who takes the reins on lead vocals. Layers of swaying keyboards from Hayden Thorpe, crystalline guitars from Benny Little and a rutting tom-tom from Chris Talbot create the songs' cascading, sinuous groove. "Watch me, watch me!"

Chickenhawk Gave Me Nightmares
Posted on 11/24/2009 by CJ

Leeds metal-thrash monsters, Chickenhawk, will be spending a good proportion of dreary December in the studio (if their myspace is to be believed), busying themselves with a little thing I like to call "recording an album".

In anticipation of this 2010 love-craft, you might like to familiarise yourself with some of Chickenhawk's work to date, including the ear-pleasing shredathon that is 'I Hate This, Do You Like It?'.

And what better way to do so than by delving into its Danny North directed, zombie bloodbath of a video? Shot en plein air around Leeds, this gore-fest must have caused quite a stir with the locals. I mean, really. The youth of today... Tsk.

A word of warning: If you're planning on watching this late at night before settling to bed in an empty house, while a ferocious storm whips at your windows and torrential rain makes all manner of noises outside, you may end up having some pretty freaky dreams.

Then again, you might not be a total pussy like me.

Heck. If for no other reason, just watch it for the few seconds of this face (above); a gem amongst a mess of madness.

Do It Your (Twenties) Self
Posted on 10/12/2009 by CJ

In the absence of a real video director and any funding, Your Twenties frontman, Gabriel Stebbing, decided to take matters into his own hands and release a DIY ‘vlog’ for his band’s forthcoming Billionaires single.

It's a rather sweet little video for a sweet little song, the real gem being the subtitled commentary which runs throughout the vid.

Billionaires is available as a limited 7” single, via Neon Gold Records, featuring artwork done by the band themselves. DIY-tastic. Nick Knowles would be proud.

JLS Single Raises Important Question
Posted on 10/12/2009 by CJ

As JLS go about releasing their latest single, one big question is on everybody's lips...

... what the hell are they all looking at? It must be pretty interesting if not one of them can tear away their gaze to acknowledge the camera.

Here's that shot again, but bigger, so you can really appreciate its beauty.

I smell a caption competition...

That frizzy haired, sensual man-creature and all round musical sex-pest, Har Mar Superstar is making a comeback.

If you know and love this man, like I kinda do, this news may well excite you in a warm way that makes you tingle in your tummy.

In anticipation, let's remind ourselves of his greatness...

Weezer In Good Name/Shit Name Mix Up
Posted on 8/24/2009 by CJ

Weezer have returned with an October release date for their hotly anticipated seventh album.

With this news, also comes news of their next single to be taken from the aforementioned album.

On top of all this news, even more news is thrust our way in the form of the release titles. The only problem is one is bloody marvellous and the other is cringeworthy blub, leaving us in a state of utter confusion as to whether Team Weezer need a good cuddling or a kicking.

Which do you think is which?

Single: (If you're wondering if I want you to) I want you to

Album: Raditude

Oh jeez.

Take The Weather With You
Posted on 8/15/2009 by CJ

The Dead Weather have announced a UK tour in October, giving mere mortals like you and I the opportunity to get up close and (almost) personal with some of the hottest names in music.

Collaborating on this part-time project, the Raconteurs' bassist Jack Lawrence, White Stripes/Raconteurs' Jack White, The Kills' vocalist Alison Mosshart and Queens of the Stone Age guitarist Dean Fertita unintentionally recorded album, Horehound, after getting together to record just one track.

Check out the tasty vid for Treat Me Like Your Mother in which White and Mosshart basically shred each other to pieces. Note: it's all about Jack cursing under his breath and the little shafts of light.

THE DEAD WEATHER: UK TOUR DATES

Monday 19th October - Manchester Academy
Wednesday 21st October - Newcastle 02 Academy
Thursday 22nd October - Edinburgh Picture House
Friday 23rd October - Leeds 02 Academy
Sunday 25th October - Bristol 02 Academy
Monday 26th October - Birmingham 02 Academy
Thursday 29th October - London 02 Brixton Academy

Pulled Apart By Hit Singles
Posted on 8/11/2009 by CJ

As anyone who has befriended the band on Twitterbookspace will know (thanks to James Brown's prolific promotion) Pulled Apart By Horses have been pretty busy of late.

The boys/men *(delete as appropriate) have travelled far and wide on their very own headline tour; they have aurally raped the ear'oles of many unsuspecting festival-goers, and all the while they've been secretly whittling away in order to carve out a mighty album in time for my birthday (14th October, or else).

Top this off with the grand old news that PABH have just been confirmed to support Biffy bloody Clyro on their upcoming autumn tour, and one simply cannot deny that things are looking quite spiffing for the lads.

So, what better way to celebrate all these facts than to cruelly take advantage of Lee/Rob/James/Tom's good-natured generosity and download yourself a FREE copy of their sell-out smash love ballad, I Punched A Lion In The Throat? That's right. There truly is no better way.

If you click the linky-pops hereabouts you can do exactly that.

Finally, close to combustion as you are, I shall leave you with the equally awesome news that Music Medication bullied a whole 50% of the band into saying and doing things for us in a grubby back room after a recent gig. Video evidence will be shared very soon, so keep your pies peeled for its giddy goodness.
